Catarina Demony | Founder and Co-Director

Originally from Lisbon, Catarina is the Co-Director of Little Portugal. She currently works as a journalist at the Surrey Advertiser and Portuguese broadcaster RTP. Previously, Catarina reported for other publications, including the International Press Foundation, Scotland’s Press & Journal, Gay Star News, The River Newspaper, among others. In addition, she has worked for UK disability charity Back Up, LSE SU, SUARTS, and Refugee Action Kingston. The 24-year-old is currently studying for her MSc in Global Conflict.

Ana Có | Founder and Co-Director

Ana was born and raised in Lisbon and she is the Co-Director of Little Portugal. As an Afro-descendant herself, Ana wants to include the voice of the Portuguese-speaking African community in this project. Ana is passionate about social inclusion and youth leadership and hopes that she can take what she has learned abroad to Portugal and Guinea-Bissau. During the day, Ana works for an interfaith charity in London, and during the evening she studies for her MSc in Public Policy and Management.

Michaela Ordosova | Filmmaker

After finishing her MA in Film Making, Michaela now works in TV post-production in London, where she has lived for the past five years. She loves London’s diversity and the million stories of people living there. Michaela got involved with the project thanks to her Portuguese friends (they forced her into it!). She is from the Czech Republic but after months of filming and editing Little Portugal’s videos, she is pretty much half Portuguese.

Madalin Botezatu | Composer

Madalin, who graduated from Kingston University with a Music Technology degree, has been writing music since he was 11. After meeting Catarina, eating pastéis de nata (also known as Portuguese custard tarts) and listening to Mariza’s music, he decided that the Portuguese style is the best style.

Carolina Mesquita | Photographer

Carolina’s favourite words are “vida” and “luz”, which might make her a bit of a hippie. But don’t be fooled, as she is also a project manager at a start-up company in London. Lover of all things photography, London and stories, Little Portugal is definitely her cup of tea. Funnily enough, we met Carolina while interviewing her for Little Portugal. You can listen to Carolina’s story here.

Working hard…or hardly working? Watch the Little Portugal crew having some fun.
