[VIDEO] Born in Costa da Caparica, a beach town near Lisbon, João Costa was forced to leave his home country when he found himself jobless during the financial crisis. Like himself, many other teachers were left unemployed. In 2007, João took matters into his own hands and moved to London, where he now works as an Assistant Headteacher.
[VIDEO] Now in her late twenties, the nursing graduate has been in London since 2015. But it was in Greece where Fátima took her nursing skills to the next level.
[VIDEO] As a 10-year-old, João Lima told his mom that he would like to study abroad. Years after, his childhood dream turned into reality. In 2011, João started a journalism degree and, since then, he has been building a career in the industry.
[VIDEO] Born and raised in Lisbon, 26-year-old Carolina loves her city. But London has always been her second love.
[VIDEO] As Youth Mayor for Lambeth, Diogo hopes to use his role to inspire young people to get involved in politics.
[VIDEO] Before retiring, Michael Towsey used to work at various libraries across the borough of Lambeth, including at the Tate South Lambeth Library – where he now helps Portuguese-speakers learn English.
[VIDEO] After graduating from high school, Jéssica Fino moved from a small village near the Portuguese city of Leiria to London.
[VIDEO] It was 1971 when António Teixeira first arrived in London. Originally from the Portuguese island of Madeira, António decided to move to the city in search of a better life.
[VIDEO] Married to a German, Fernanda always struggled to keep her Portuguese identity. But after working with the Portuguese Community Centre, she reconnected with her old self.
[VIDEO] Eliana’s dream is to stay in London, progress in her career and maybe one day go back to university – one of her biggest passions.
