After finishing high school, Jéssica Fino moved from Tremoceira, a small village near the Portuguese city of Leiria, to London. It was 2010, and Portugal was still being hit by the 2008 global financial crisis. Like many other young Portuguese people, Jéssica – who always dreamed of becoming a journalist – feared for her country’s future.
When she first arrived in London, the 23-year-old started a degree in journalism at London Metropolitan University. After graduating, Jéssica received a job offer and currently works as an Online Writer for a magazine, where she covers issues related to finance, economy and politics – including the recent EU referendum.
But journalism is not Jéssica’s only passion. As someone who loves music, one of her favourite things about London is being able to go to concerts and gigs across the city. Other than music, Jéssica loves everything food related, and even makes her own beer at home.
“On Monday, I already know what I am going to do every day and sometimes it is a bit much. Sometimes I need to slow down, but that’s what I love about London, there is always so much to do, it is a waste being at home.”
Jéssica’s plans for the future are uncertain, but one thing is for sure: the world is her oyster.
